So I'm finally up to date with what's happening in VIC.  I've spoken to mum too.  She's finally turned off the tv because she can't take it anymore.  26 dead already.  Two towns completely destroyed.  People in VIC are saying it's worse than Ash Wednesday.

Go here for images.

At the moment Australia is facing some wild weather conditions.  There is complete flooding in North Queensland, there was flooding in Tennant while I was there which hasn't happened in over 20 years, Victoria is being ravaged by deadly bushfires, NSW is going through a heat wave and is now bracing for extreme bush fire conditions.  Not to mention that VIC is experiencing extreme heat as well.

I have no idea what to think.

the thing is people knew this was predicted and nothing can be done about the fires when the winds are too hot.

Some asshole lit some fires. I hope they get what is coming to them.

I read an article in the Australian today and it had a comment from Kevin Rudd and he said there is nothing else to call it but mass murder... and I agree. I hoep they catch whoever did this.

I'm sure they will. It will just take a lot of time.

It's a little ridiculous isn't it?
I mean, it's really too hot to even go outside. The weather has changed dramatically in my lifetime (17 years), I hate to see what it will be like in another 17, or another 34, etc...
*shudder*

I know. It's actually a scary thought. In such little time we've had major weather changes and they're just going to keep on changing.

I don't think anyone has any idea what to think or to make of the situation.

In the end it's just shocking and devastating. Sometimes there are no words.

gosh, I feel so out of touch the world for not knowing about this. I hope everything is ok with you. =/

I'm good. No fires where I am. But I still feel for the people in VIC. It's the worst bush fires we've ever had in Australia.

oh wow, that's really scary
Jeanne[info]random_pink on February 10th, 2009 09:56 am (UTC)
It is. It's terrifying to watch. Everytime I read about it, see it on the news I feel like crying. It's so devestating.

Thoughts are with you all...praying for some sort of change in the weather patterns so things can begin to be put under control
Jeanne[info]random_pink on February 10th, 2009 09:54 am (UTC)
I know! But from all the wild weather it looks like that isn't going to happen :(

I'm so sorry. When I heard about this I immediately thought of you.
Jeanne[info]random_pink on February 10th, 2009 09:56 am (UTC)
Aww thank you! I'm ok. I do have family in Victoria though. A few of mum's cousins have lost their homes. I have an aunt who lives is mansfield and I just hope her town isn't caught in the wake.
